Bring your existing logbook with you.

What it reads

• CSV and TSV. The usual export from anything.
• Excel. If the workbook has several sheets it takes the largest and tells you which one it used.
• A Word document, as long as the log is in a table.
• A LogEM backup. The JSON export, restored whole.
• Pasted rows. Copy out of anything and paste them straight in.

The file is read on your phone. Nothing is uploaded to import it.

What it cannot read

• PDF. Export it to CSV or Excel and import that instead.
• Pages, Numbers and Keynote. Export to CSV, Excel or Word first.
• Photos and scans of a paper logbook. Not yet.

You do not have to tidy it first

It finds the header row itself, so a title and a few blank rows above your table do not matter. Then it matches your columns by name, whatever you happened to call them:

• date, when
• procedure, item, skill, scan, modality, activity
• supervision, role, entrustment, level
• hospital, site, placement, trust, post
• stage, curriculum
• supervisor, consultant, assessor, trainer
• age, sex, notes

Anything it guesses wrong you correct on the mapping screen. Nothing is created until you have seen it.

Procedures and POCUS, from the same file

Rows are matched against the RCEM procedure list and the POCUS modalities, so one mixed spreadsheet splits into the two logbooks correctly. A type or kind column settles anything ambiguous.

Entries are grouped into posts by hospital and dated into the right rotation. Rows that fall outside every post are shown to you rather than quietly dropped.

Duplicates are caught before anything is added

Incoming rows are sorted three ways: genuinely new, already in LogEM, and repeated inside the file itself. Duplicates are skipped by default. Tap one to bring it in anyway.

This is the part that makes a second import safe. If you import the same spreadsheet twice, or import a file that overlaps one you brought in last year, you do not end up counting a procedure twice at ARCP.

Then it is a logbook again

Once the entries are in they behave like anything else you have logged: counted against your curriculum stage, separated into procedures and POCUS, and included in the ARCP export.
